If you are looking for more than just peace and calm, there are several ways of exploring the fantastic natural environment surrounding Nyksund.

Hiking
NyksundYou can walk many short or longer hiking trails from Nyksund. The landscape is full of contrasts; from the blue or green ocean with it's rocky shores and sandy beaches to lakes, marshlands and the wild mountains with their fabulous views.
"The Queen's trail", named after Queen Sonja, who walked the track in 1994, goes along the sea from Stø to Nyksund (2 hours) and back over the mountain to Stø (4 hours). It is of course also possible to start from Nyksund. The tourist information in Myre has a free brochure with a map and information about this route.

Whale Safari
FlukeMS Leonora departs from the fishing village Stø in Vesterålen every day at 11.00 during the summer season. They visit the seabird- and seal-colonies at Anda Fyr on their way to the areas outside Andøya where the sperm whales roam. This is a whole day at sea, and a good opportunity to see several species of whale and exotic sea birds (www.arcticwhaletours.com).

Zodiac Safari
From the villages of Nyksund and Stø, it is possible to go on bird safari, fishing trips or adventure rides. Safari to Anda Fyr: The greatest puffin colony in the area, with sea eagles, razor-bill, loons and cormorant. Boat trips

Fishing in freshwater, coast- and deep sea fishing
In the mountain lakes, you can fish for trout if you have a fishing permit. Along the shore of Nyksund, you can catch both cod, pollack and sea trout.
